Four Truffles can now be found in Astoria, NY at Rejuvenate Face & Body!
I had a sit-down with Evelyn, the owner of Rejuvenate, to find out how this gorgeous spa came to be:
4T: What made you decide to venture into skincare?
E: I grew up in a small town in rural Honduras & moved to New York as a teenager. I worked in fashion and made my way up in ranks to a very successful career. Unfortunately, an unbalanced diet & working in a high-stress industry had taken its toll. For the first time in my life, I suffered from severe acne.
When I was 25, after investing in countless facials and expensive beauty products, I met a woman who changed my life. Up until that point, I really thought skin care was topical. I had no idea that my diet had to do with how my body was reacting!
I embraced a holistic approach to nutrition and skin care that eventually led to dramatic changes in my own appearance and my well-being. But it lit a fire in me – I was determined to help others benefit from my struggle. I decided to dedicate my career to skin care. I felt like I had a responsibility to share my knowledge because I’d learned so much.
Because she’s been there, Evelyn says the most rewarding part of her job is working with people in their early 20s who are suffering from serious acne.
E: I love doing all the treatments, especially for people with acne-prone skin. People with acne don’t just have physical scars. They have emotional scars. It breaks my heart when people tell me they don’t leave the house because their skin looks so bad.
Within three or four months, we see results that are “out of this world” and you can see how they evolve. It changes everything, the way they feel about themselves, how they approach life. I don’t think I could ever get tired of that. After ten years, I’m still very passionate about what I do.
4T: How did Rejuvenate come to be?
From the moment she opened Rejuvenate in 2004, Evelyn knew she wanted to create a different spa concept so that people would feel comfortable asking questions, a place with a soothing, calming atmosphere and a compassionate staff.
E: I never want people to feel intimidated or judged. We recommend products if people ask. We want to build trust in our clients.
4T: Why is being “green” so important to you, personally?
For Evelyn, part of building that trust means carrying organic skin care lines that use only natural ingredients – a core part of her beliefs and her commitment to holistic beauty.
E: We want people to see the bigger picture – not just for their skin but also for the planet. I will not work with companies that are all about money.
All of the products featured at Rejuvenate – from cleansers and moisturizers to sunscreen and soy candles –
contain all-natural, plant-based ingredients. Before any company’s products make it to her shelves, Evelyn ensures that they don’t engage in animal testing, that their ingredients are ethically sourced, and that they share her eco-conscious approach to doing business.
E: Some people wonder why I work so hard, why I insist on being so thorough. ‘You could still be successful,’ they tell me. I tell them I am successful. And I’m exactly where I need to be. This is a journey and it’s been an amazing one. What I do touches people in a very personal way. How many people can say that?
