Women 4 Women
As much of a bummer as it is… yesterday I was fully reminded that my summer days are numbered. I started working on our PV Jr. Holiday Luncheon Event – one of our club’s biggest fund-raising events. Lots of details and organizing involved but with an awesome group of women in full force I’m feeling confident it will be a successful event.
Despite the rough ride everyone has had to endure lately and still continue to go through, in hind sight if you look around our community in comparison to what’s going on in poverty stricken areas of Los Angeles and other developing countries in particular, there’s no comparison to the obviousness of who’s more in dire need. So the saying “it’s all relative” truly applies here. Many of us had to curtail and abstain from extra curricular activities and forced to go on a budget but, there’s a woman out there who’s sick to her stomach because she can’t feed her hungry child. Nothing could be more dire for a mother to go through such challenge.

Flashback Morocco… this past June we stayed with a family who’s matriarch works tirelessly, harvesting and processing argan and olive oil so she can make a living. Her main goal was to make enough money so she can keep her family in tact. If there’s no future for her children within the village, they will be forced to leave the family and migrate elsewhere where they can find jobs. So this 70 year old woman wakes up at 4 a.m. everyday, collects the nuts from the argan tree and milks the cow so she can keep the family together. Unfortunately their mule died from heatstroke and being that this animal was used to press the olives they became incapacitated for more than a month. The mule was too expensive to replace. Imagine the impact on their livelihood.
Now as we plan for our fundraiser, I’m reminded of how many people are in need and counting on our support. Not just in Morocco but also here in our neighboring communities and although the economy has been rough, I’m fully charged and inspired to work hard to let people know about our woman’s club and our fund-raising events. I’m reminded of how important it is for our company to be that conduit that binds these women together. I’m so inspired and thankful that giving is a big part of who we are and I encourage each and everyone of you to join us.
Let’s do it 4 the women and children.
