Emerging Beauty Trends in 2010
Last month at a Beauty Industry West (BIW) conference, we heard Nica Lewis, Director of Mintel Beauty Innovation, deliver a speech about the “Top 4 Emerging Beauty Trends for 2010″.
Nica began, “While 2009 brought its challenges for the industry, beauty brands and suppliers have continued to seek creative new ways to merge science, nature and sustainability for better results and more eco-friendly formulas and packaging. In 2010, we will see more consolidation in the beauty industry and the evolution of old trends, as well as new ones, as consumer confidence returns.”
Here at Four Truffles our interest and focus is in the “Nu Natural” but thought we’d share all 4 trends with you, so have a read and tell us what you think!
You’re familiar with the Lipstick Theory, right? In a down economy lipstick sales are through the roof – it’s an inexpensive and sometimes the only indulgence women can afford when funds are tight. Most importantly it is a mood enhancer and that’s exactly what Mood Beauty is all about. Beauty products that offer psychological and well-being benefits by using active ingredients to enhance moods abound in 2010. Pay particular attention to the use of textures, temperatures or sounds that turn your mood switch off and on.
The space and place where our Four Truffles brand will flourish. This trend is where new visions and versions of natural and organic combine with science to shift the focus from certification to results, revisiting authenticity/provenance, eco-invisibility and safety. All Four Truffles products contain our performance driven natural Argan Oil, Shea Butter and Olive Oil advanced scientific skincare delivery system complex so it seems as if we’re already a category leader and trendsetter! We’re also excited to launch our new Travel/Trial Kit which features these products in a 2 ounce tube within a cosmetic bag comprised of recycled rice residue in March that features our PDN body care system.
Pro-Tech’t
How many times have you heard or read “protect your skin”. Well, better get use to it because there is a strong and renewed emphasis on protection whether it is your face, hair, or cosmetic products. Protection will be associated with technology so you will hear words such as “firewalls” being used as descriptive words for beauty products in this category. Packaging will also mirror the Pro-Tech’t message and of course ingredients that promise to “protect” you even in extreme environmental condition will emerge.
Stem-Cells, Nanotechnology, DIY at-home kits and cures that offer alternatives to cosmetic surgery and non-invasive procedures comprise this trend. I think you guys get the point. Personally I am not a fan. Botox parties for social get togethers? This is where I graciously bow out, smile and show my crows feet that represent my happiness and hard work.
Which trend will you be following?
